Milano Counseling & Psychotherapy
Who are my clients?
Many of my clients feel weighed down by an anxiety or sadness that sits just underneath the surface. Sometimes the feelings can be pushed aside and we get on with life, but at other times it bubbles over and can feel all encompassing. We’re told to do few things: keep pushing through and “just be grateful”, journal more, exercise more, get better at time management, find your passion, on and on and on.
But some of that pain doesn't seem to go away.
I work with many different presenting concerns. Some of the concerns I am particularly specialized in include:
Trauma (including single event traumas and complex childhood traumas)
Anxiety disorders
Major depressive disorders
Relationship struggles
Existential issues surrounding meaning, worth, and self esteem
And many more
What does good therapy feel like?
I believe that good therapy can not be found in a worksheet or in an AI prompt. The most meaningful and transformational moments I have with clients come from us having an authentic, safe, and warm relationship for us to deeply explore the pain (and joys) of life. Good therapy is human, messy, and gently moves us through pain towards the person we want to be.When you sit in a session with me, you should feel fully seen and fully heard. You should feel like "oh, this person gets it." And when I don't get it, you should feel safe enough to say "silly Ben, you're wrong about that!"The type of therapy I provide
I am trained in and integrate many different therapeutic modalities in my sessions. I practice from:
Person-Centered Therapy (you are ultimately the expert of your own experience)
Emotion-Focused Therapy (we prize emotions, and process them in real time)
Internal Family Systems (your mind is not just one thing, we explore parts and their interactions)
Psychodynamic Therapy (our childhood experiences affect our personality and behaviors, so it makes sense to explore them)
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (a trauma therapy that helps rapidly transform symptoms)
I earned a Master of Social Work degree from the University of North Florida and have four years of experience working with clients in a private practice and college counseling setting.
A little about me
I enjoy reading, music and music festivals, staying active, spending time with family and friends, and playing video games/ watching TV shows and movies. I also enjoy engaging in whatever new hobby my brain is hyper-fixating on (at the time of writing this, I'm currently learning how to spin a pen around my thumb).
